Pink Power

The Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2009 World Pink Roadshow got off to a brilliant start with the launch at The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur.
There to help raise awareness and to show their support for the fight against the number one killer among women were the who's who in the industry including Estee Lauder's management, local celebrities, professionals from the medical fields, Estee Lauder Companies' entire staff and members of the media as well as cancer survivors and their families.
In the past years, Estee Lauder has organised roadshows in the city's major malls offering the public a chance to learn breast self-examination from trained member of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association besides distributing educational cards on breast cancer and how to conduct breast self examinations. In recent years, the roadshows have included doctors and nurses from sponsoring hospitals performing free clinical breast examinations.
This year, according to Katrina Liew, chairperson of the Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awarness Campaign 2009, the cosmetic giant decided to focus their resources to two malls – The Gardens Mall and Suria KLCC, "so that we can offer even more engaging activities at each location." The launch at The Gardens Mall signalled the start of their awareness campaign that includes health talks conducted by oncologists, radiotherapists, obstetricians, breast surgeons and dieticians.
"The idea is that the more you know, the less you fear. We're here to help equip the public with information and the contacts to relevant professionals and agencies," Liew said adding that arming one's self with knowledge definitely puts one in a better position to not only help one's self but others too should the need arise. Early detection saves lives is the company's mantra.
For those who missed the campaign at The Gardens Mall, you can catch them at Suria KLCC's Concourse for three day beginning Friday, 16 October.
There are several health talks planned for the three days including discussions on what you need to know about breast cancer by breast surgeon, Dr. Patricia Gomez and living a healthy lifestyle with breast cancer by Dr. Azlina Firzah Abd. Aziz, Breast Surgeon.
Those interested in signing up for any of the health talks can contact Suzanne at (03) 2092-6000 from Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 5pm. The first 40 participants per session will receive a Health & Beauty hamper worth RM100.
Apart from the health talks, the campaign is also providing free clinical breast examinations by doctors.
The times for the free examinations are: Friday, 16 October between noon and 3pm; Saturday, 17 October between 11am--1pm and 3pm—5pm and Sunday, 18 October between noon and 3pm.
