Peranakan-inspired fashion
GUESTS were taken on a journey through the Peranakan age during the preview of Shanghai Tang's Kaleidoscope Fall Winter 2009 Collection.
They were served Peranakan cuisine by master chefs who took particular pride in creating a fusion of Asian flavours to suit the occasion.
The main highlight was the showcase of the Kaleidoscope collection which was inspired by the Peranakan (Baba-Nyonya) culture.
So Shanghai: The Imperial Tailoring collection The theme brings together lush textures and luxurious fabrics in a palette that reflects the romance of the Nusantara regions.
The collection combines inspirations from the Art Deco period which features geometric patterns and forms.
The second highlight was a collection unique to Shanghai Tang. The Imperial Tailoring collection revives the diminishing art of Chinese haute couture.
Special clients were given the experience of a tête-à-tête couture-style consultation that involves choosing fabrics and linings, taking body measurements and creating designs based on their unique needs.
Asian fusion: Peranakan-influenced style in the Kaleidoscope collection. The exclusive service will also be offered as a specially flown in trunk show in early November 2009.
Appointments will be by invitation only.
