Mummy Perfect

Ever want to be a model but you think you're too short or a little too heavy to pull it off? Brand image consultancy group, Chapter One, says you don't have to be tall and super slim to achieve that dream. In fact, that's one of the reasons why Chapter One set up ACM, Anyone Can Model. They are here to tell you, well, anyone can be a model all you need is to enhance your beauty.

With that in mind, ACM and CloveTwo decided to embark on the ACM/CloveTwo Celebrates You Photo Contest. Our aim was to get CloveTwo fans to take part by submitting their photos based on monthly themes. Winners were chosen by the number of votes their pictures captured. The winner not only received products from sponsors but they were also given a make-over as well as a photo session.

The theme for May was My Parent & I. Readers were encouraged to submit photos of themselves with their child. The winner for this category was 31-year-old single mother of three kids, Norizan Abdul Latiff.

Norizan and her youngest son, Mohd Danish Aiman, six.

Norizan, who woks in a nursery, sent a photo of herself with each of her boys, Muhammad Daniel, 10; Muhammad Danny, eight and Mohd Danish Aiman, six. "I didn't for a moment think I would win," says Norizan who adds that her sister informed her of her win. "I wanted to join the contest because I could relate to the theme." Her photo and her caption "Daniel, Danny and Danish. Me and My Sweethearts. They are my world", won her 2,236 votes.

For her efforts, Norizan was invited to D'Element studio in The Strand, Kota Damansara for her makeover. With Mohd Danish in tow, Norizan was given a five-star beauty treatment. "I never imagined I could be transformed into a sophisticated beauty," Norizan gushes adding "I really love the makeover. I look different and feel very confident now. I didn't know I can still look pretty despite being a little chubby."

Norizan says she acquired many tips from her makeover and loves her new look. "I want to change everything about myself and it will definitely start with my hair," she said. Hair stylist Mandy Chia said all Norizan needed was to trim the ends of her hair. "Norizan looks good with curls, so I pinned some of her hair into a bun to give her more volume," Chia explains adding a good hair colour would also do wonders to dry and dull hair.

Lulu working her magic

As for her makeup, makeup artist Lulu Tan from Styling Pavilion Academy kept it simple, but attractive. She applied lighter foundation to brighten Norizan's complexion. "For Norizan, she looks good with a 'day makeup' to match the casual look. Her adorable son has perfect skin. He only needed a little touch up," she says. As for the foundation, Lulu advises that it should be applied around the chin area first before spreading it throughout the face. "The purpose of foundation is to hide the imperfection and enhance the glow. Choose foundation that is closest to your skin tone," she explains.

Norizan's best feature, Lulu says is her eyes. "She is a natural beauty. Her skin is well-moisturized and good. To define her eyes, I used a white base and purple eye-shadow. Purple enhances a feminine look and the colour looks awesome on Norizan."

Both mother and son were later whisked off to Perfect Runway, a boutique across the street to try out some fashionable new clothes. Boutique owner Evie Tham chose some trendy attire to give the pair a breezy, fresh look. The duo not only had fun trying out hats, but they also tried on some formal wear for the photoshoot.

"I'm so happy. I've never been very confident about myself and my looks. With what I've learned from this makeover, I've come to realize that I can look attractive and stylish, and motherhood shouldn't deter me from that fact. This is just the perfect gift, especially for Mother's Day," said one very happy Norizan.

The ACM/CloveTwo contest is sponsored by Bizzy Body, Clairol, Origins, Clinelle and Wella. Winners also received products from the respective sponsors.
