A leading health and beauty retailer brings popular Asian brands to Malaysia for the first time

By Elaine Dong

Watsons will be bringing exciting Asian skincare brands to FemmeCity, which opens it doors today.

According to Watsons marketing and development director Jessica Ng, the brands are from Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

''Asian countries are currently leading the trend in speciality skincare products through their extensive research and development, which results in greater efficacy for Asian skin. As Asia's leading health and beauty retailer, we constantly look out for such brands and bring them into our stores,'' says Ng.

Ng is most excited about the brand DHC, Japan's number one mail order skincare brand. ''Their star product, the Deep Cleansing Oil, sells more than 300,000 bottles a day in Japan alone.''

Watsons is the exclusive distributor for DHC in Malaysia. It will be bringing in three ranges for a start — the Olive Essentials Series, Acerola Range and DHC for men. Depending on the market's response, it will bring in more products later. The brand will be officially introduced to the public during FemmeCity tomorrow at 3pm. A thousand free samples will be given away to those who visit its booth. There will also be a free workshop for customers who are keen on experiencing the Olive Essentials series and the Deep Cleansing Oil.

Pure Beauty, which is a private label created by Watsons Regional Product Develop-ment team and made in South Korea, will also be unveiled. The Pomegranate range features nano-technology for greater efficacy and is suitable for Asian women aged 20 to 25. Customers who purchase Pure Beauty products during the fair will receive a free detoxification facial mask.

Another new brand to check out is Nature & Co by Kose.

''This is a natural skincare range made with organic herb extracts and well selected ingredients. For those are interested, we are giving away free Nature & Co pure white lotion and milky lotion. With any purchase, customer will get to enjoy a relaxing hand massage, too,'' says Ng.

Japanese skincare brand Shiseido will be offering customers free makeovers, lip glosses and puff powders from Majolica Majorca with their purchases.

Japanese brand Aquamoist by Aquajuju will also be featured at the fair. Customers will get a free instant moisture check to see if their skin has adequate moisture.

''From Taiwan, we have the brands Majiami and Heme. The former has an Incredible Lift Up Face Lotion, which caters to the trend among Asian celebrities, while the latter is endorsed by Taiwanese superband SHE. Heme is well known for its BB cream and cosmetic applications. All these brands will be available exclusively at Watsons. We want visitors to FemmeCity to discover new ideas and products, and new ways to look good, feel great and have fun,'' says Ng.

* Watsons is one of the blockbuster partners of FemmeCity, to be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from today to Aug 1. Admission to the fair is free.
