Besides the games and excitement with the kids, the main project is to work in small groups to encourage the kids to enjoy reading. The books that were chosen has good moral values in them.
We had to go through a preliminary read through one of the books to know the story so that we can narrate to the kids and the moral of the story.
One of the most interesting stories we read was the one called “The Gift”. This is a story of a craftsman called Eli who lives in a house on a hill top. He creates little Wemmicks which are creatures made out of various kinds of wood. No two Wemmits are alike. After creating them, Eli puts them in a small town not too far from his home on top of the hill to watch over them. These Wemmits have life and the freedom to choose whatever they want to do.
Over time the Wemmits forgot about Eli and his simple law of love and forgiveness with one another and a relationship with Eli and began to create their own laws. They began to carry with them stickers with dots or stars. Everytime someone likes another Wemmit for a good deed done, or even if they look good etc they will stick a star on the wemmit and a dot if they don’t like them.
There was a Wemmit by the name of Panchinello who no matter how hard he tried to please the other Wemmiicks he got more dots than stars. (Everyone can see how many stars or dots each Wemmit carries as it is displayed on their bodies.)
" He makes all things beautiful in his time"
One day a really pretty Wemmit girl named Lucia came to the town. She had no stars or dots on her. Everytime someone tried to put a dot on her because of jealousy or a star because she was beautiful, it would not stick on her body, it would just fall away.
Pancenello was so interested in what made her so special so he asked her about it and why the stars or dots don’t stick on her. Lucia said its because everyday she goes to the house of Eli and spends some time with him
Pancenello was interested and wanted to meet Eli. Lucia took him to the house on the hill. Pancenello was curious and asked Eli why Lucia was different. To this Eli replied, "so are you, I made everyone different and special in their own way. You are valuable and therefore don’t allow yourself to be judged by others because they are also create wemmits just like you….."
"I as the creator made you perfect and I don’t make mistakes."
( Please give me your feedback, as to what you think, is the moral of the story)
