Posted by: Phat Mama Post(s) by this blogger

Malaysia's supermodel Amber Chia made headlines last night when The Star's online news portal The Daily Chilli reported Amber's wedding in Bali last week.

This afternoon, a press release from her publicist, Orchan Consulting Asia, hit the media's mailbox confirming Amber having tied the knot at the exotic island with long-time friend-turn-beau who she's been dating for one-and-a-half year.

It was a private party attended by about 40 guests that included only their closest friends and family members from both sides.

According to Amber's publicist, the couple had been planning the wedding over the past five months. They are clearly thrilled that it had finally happened. The wedding was held at a private beach within the exclusive Diwangkara Holiday Villa Resort in Bali.

Amber had a total of seven wedding gowns, specially designed by two of Malaysia's top designers Keith Kee and Alvin Tay. Adding glitter to the already beautiful gowns was the stunning jewelry collection supplied by Rafflesia.

Among her celebrity friends present were TV host Daphne Iking, violinist Dennis Lau and catwalk Guru Benjamin Toong. Winnie Sin of Rafflesia was of course present as well.

Well, the couple may have just gotten married but they seem eager to start a family.

Amber said: “We have discussed the future, and we definitely want to start a family together.”

“I would love to be a mum before I am 30," said Amber, who is now 28 years old.

Orchan Consulting Asia also extended Amber's apology for having been tight-lipped about the wedding. It seems hubby, a Malaysian with businesses in Australia and Hong Kong, is a pretty shy person so Amber prefers to keep him out of the spotlight.

The newly-weds is now honeymooning and will be back in KL only at the end of April. Amber might just oblige the interview requests once home. For now, it's a quiet and romantic honeymoon darlings...

My keep fit year

Posted by: Phat Mama Post(s) by this blogger

It was 12.30 this morning that I came across an article on health written by one Dr. Maoshing Ni in his blog at http://health.yahoo.com

The header reads "3 Unique Exercises to Shape Up for Spring".

Dr Mao said, "some 40 million people are considered obese". One of the reasons he said is because we eat food with high calories and don't exercise enough.

"Physical activity is the key to a healthy metabolism", said Dr. Mao and that "the number one cause of being overweight is inactivity".

I read his article with great interest because a year ago I came face to face with a, shall I say, "slight weight problem".

I have been at 48kg for most of my adult life due to my high metabolism and extremely active life but for my height (I'm 5' 4"), my doctor recommended I maintain my weight between 52kg and 54kg. I however maintained a 50kg weight.

Sketch of the Arm Swing is taken from Dr. Maoshing Ni's article.

However, my weight shot to almost 59kg last year. And true enough as mentioned by Dr. Mao, the key reason is inactivity and the second is, as discussed with friends over dinner last night, eating small amount of food six times a day, which is a sure guarantee to increase our weight.

Many of us associate "physical activity" with anything that is quick-paced and energy impact but this is not so as confirmed by Dr. Mao. He said mind-body exercises like tai chi; qiqong and Dao In yoga help "promote energy, balance of function and a calm of mind".

Dr. Mao also said that studies have shown that these exercises help balance blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol, equilibrium and other organ functions.

Now, this is the secret that I want to share with you ladies especially. What Dr. Mao said about these exercises is really true because I attended three qiqong classes and discovered how fast the exercise works. I won't lie that those were the only lessons I managed to attend but I have been doing the basic, warming up exercises I learnt every morning as soon as I jump out of bed.

Sketch of the Swimming Dragon is taken from Dr. Maoshing Ni's article.

In his article, Dr. Mao gave three qiqong exercises for us to do at our own pace and time. One is the Swimming Dragon, two is the Arm Swing and three is the Merry-Go-Round. I have done the first two but not the third and let me tell you that qiqong exercise looks simple but if you are new at it three minutes into a routine can make you feel like you've jogged for an hour!

If you'd like to get the instructions for this exercise, go to:
http://health.yahoo.com/experts/drmao/24986/3-unique-exercises-to-shape-up-for-spring/

So how often should we exercise? According to Dr. Mao, four times a week of 30-minute exercise each time can make a whole lot of difference to our health.

And, if you are like me, who hates working out in the gym and time are a factor, try these exercises, which can be done at the comfort and privacy of our own home. I will start this specific routines first thing this morning
because I have promised myself that 2010 will be a "Keep Fit" year for me again.

Great buys at ladies' boutique

Posted by: Phat Mama Post(s) by this blogger

There are so  many, many of these small boutiques around town these days but it's hard to find one that has good choices in terms of
design and fit.

I personally like shopping at Cats Whiskers because most of their clothes fit nicely on my body. It is very rare that I had to go make alterations to a particular piece that I like.

While shopping for trousers at most outlets can be a headache for me, I am almost 100% sure I can find one at Cats Whiskers at any time.

There are four Cats Whiskers outlets in the Klang Valley but because they also cater to online shopping it makes it so much easier to first browse what's available at the stores.

In its Sale section you will find lots of interesting pieces, some at a discount of even 50%.

I've put together here a selection of simple, cotton casuals to pieces that are more suited for a night out.

Enjoy.

Be bold and different

Posted by: Phat Mama Post(s) by this blogger

Layering is such an in thing in today’s dressing style. Forget about our crazy weather. Our girls just want to enjoy the freedom of dressing as they please minus the restrictions and dos and don’ts.

If in the past we are bogged down with the idea that mismatched outfits are a no-no, today almost everyone is doing it. While many still stick to the safe combination of one color complementing another (think black and white, blue and light pink…) there are among us who are much more “fast-forward” in the fashion game.

Tubes, tank tops, singlets of vibrant colors are used as underlays. T-shirts and tops are then worn over these pieces. On top of these come the cardigans and jackets and scarves. Of course our weather is hot but who cares. Half the time when we are dressed like this we would be flaunting our fashion “drama” in the malls (which are heavily air-conditioned). Very few of us Malaysians spend time outdoors, right?

With the growing interest in skinny jeans and leggings among those in the fashion business, consumers grew a bigger appetite for them giving borne to a look that’s more forward and daring. Who would even dare think of wearing leggings or pantyhose with motifs of red lips in the past? Nowadays, the bolder they come they better they are accepted.

So girls, throw away the “black shoes with black bag” style please. These days anything goes.

Da Mouth in action

Posted by: Phat Mama Post(s) by this blogger

As promised, here are some of the shots taken of Da Mouth performing at Puma's event at The Opera on Saturday night.

As brand ambassadors the group members really lived up to their reputation as the young and bubbly icons in the fashion world.

Not only do they look good in Puma's Spring Summer 2010 collection they also rocked the club with their energetic performance.

Welcome to the Puma club!

Puma-packed night

Posted by: Phat Mama Post(s) by this blogger

Thanks to two rude photographers who decided to hog the area closest to the stage and the runaway, many others representing the media at Puma’s event on Saturday night ended up with poor shots of the activities on stage.

Puma’s Create Your Style event held at The Opera at Sunway Pyramid not only started an hour and a half late but also did not have clear guidelines for photographers on assignment.

A huge crowd had turned up to catch Taiwanese act Da Mouth performed and showcased Puma’s latest collection. Due to this everyone squeezed closest to the stage, leaving very little space for photographers to shoot. The short runway also did not help make our lives easier.

And thanks to these two burly photographers who forgot work ethics AND the size of their bodies, at least half of the clothes modeled couldn’t be shot because either their hands, stomach or head would get in the way of the other photographers’ frame. When asked politely to cooperate by moving aside as soon as they have taken a shot so others behind them could do their job as well, one of the two photographers retaliated by showing his anger. And when he was told that the ones asking were media photographers as well, he screamed: “I’m from the media too!” Well, doesn’t that give you any reason to cooperate?

And, it is for this reason that organizers need to be mindful and designate “shooting areas” especially when there are limited space.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I would like to add that the event was one that was worth the waiting and the fighting for space.

Puma’s decision to have Da Mouth, as its brand ambassador is praiseworthy as the power-packed music sensation has the energy and charisma that reflects the label’s hot and funky designs. Puma’s Spring Summer 2010 collection is energetic, colorful and fun, just like its campaign activities.

Once the event kicked off there was no pause in between. It was music-and-dance-packed and the outfits showcased by the models and especially Da Mouth made it a good night for many.

Da Mouth sang tracks from its latest album One Two Three and showed some fancy footwork. Da Mouth is in town from Feb 27 to March 1 to promote Puma’s a Bright and Colorful Future brand campaign. The group’s song Rock It is being used in conjunction with Puma’s new print campaign.

Tomorrow I will post some shots of Da Mouth for die-hard fans. Enjoy.

World inspired designs

Today I am featuring the last range of collection from Topshop Spring Summer 2010. Techno Traveller is put together based on the fashion trends around the world. This includes Americana, rave gear and nomad-inspired embellished and tribal pieces.

Animal prints in fluoro colors decorate dresses and mini skirts. Many of the pieces from this range are Moroccan-inspired. They have a handcrafted feel, covered in bashed and tarnished coins and sequins, studs, embroidery and woolen poms-poms.

Techno prints and bright colors are used on the traditional keffiyeh scarves. These are worn with chunky knitwear and patchwork jackets. If these aren’t bold enough, how about adding to your wardrobe super-distressed, ripped and bleached denim covered in hardware?

If you love knits then Techno Traveller’s use tape yarn for that loose, unraveling feel. It piles on the fashion hype on these knits by having holes and nibbled effects to them. Where decorations are concerned, Topshop goes all out with tassels, chains and chainmail.

Since the military look is in this year why not exploit it further by designing harem trousers customized with sweatshirt panels, patches and cammo netting prints. You love maxis? Dress it up by draping over it a scrunched-up military waistcoat from Techno Traveller.

Fringing is never leaving the fashion scene for now. They are on dresses, scarves, pants, shorts, anywhere the designers can think of.

And as for footwear, Techno Traveller feels the clog heel is a key shape.
